Grand Forks Highlights - Who knew those boys could fly an airplane???

Sunday was a loooong day in the car! 800 miles from 7 am to 7 pm..... They were all ready to get out of that Durango. Lee took the boys to dinner in East Grand Forks, MN at one of out favorite places. Zhenya and Sasha liked the Blue Moose restaurant with its moose heads hanging on the walls. Dinner and good conversation was shared with Pastor Vic Luiken and Phil, Bonnie & Bri Harmeson.

Monday was full of fun. Zhenya and Sasha accompanied Lee to Grand Forks AFB (where Lee was assigned from 2004-2006). Lee was able to get the boys into the KC-135 flight simulator. They each got to "fly" the airplane and even "landed" the airplane on the runway at Hickam AFB, HI! Next, it was off to the real KC-135 airplane for a tour. Zhenya and Sasha sat in the pilot's seat with Lee explaining the instrument panels and everything in the cockpit to them. They also saw where the boom operator lays to perform aerial refueling of other airplanes. As a bonus they were allowed to walk on the wings of the airplane! After the tour of the plane, they rode along the taxiway in an official Air Force vehicle and watched a 2-ship KC-135 cell departure. Very cool stuff!!

Zhenya and Sasha are journeling their adventures to share with family, friends, and classmates. They have been going over their bicycle maps to prepare for the trip. Tomorrow they have another long drive to their starting point, Great Falls, MT. They are all eager to start pedalling!

(Photos of all of this coolness will be posted soon....complications with computers. Sorry!)
